The clothes on your back and the dye in your beer shouldn’t be the only thing going green on St. Patrick’s Day. Holidays leave behind an abundance of trash and waste that need to be properly disposed of. Please take into consideration some of these mindful tips on how to go green and help the earth this March 17th.
Rideshare
Be responsible and practice safe drinking while being eco-friendly. Use a rideshare service or carpool with a designated driver to and from any parties you attend. Ridesharing ensures that everyone gets home safely and also limits the amount of cars on the road. Less cars on the road means less harmful emissions are being released into the atmosphere!
Recycle Bottles and Cans
Hosting any party will leave behind a lot of trash. Holidays like St. Patrick’s day tend to leave a few extra bottles and cans laying around. Recycle the leftover trash so they can be refurbished in items such as pellets for a local park, clothing items, and more!
Refillable Water Bottles
Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water if you plan on going out. Bring along a reusable water bottle in place of drinking from plastic bottles. This limits the amount of waste you create and reusable, metal bottles will keep your water colder and often hold more than the standard bottle of water!
Thrift Your Outfit
Skip the face paint and hairspray this year. Show your holiday spirit by wearing reusable items from local thrift stores! Second hand clothing stores can provide some amazing finds that you may have never considered. This gives an old shirt a second chance finding an awesome retro piece of apparel is always a plus for the consumer! Additionally, can also find plenty of home decor if you want to decorate on a budget!
Compost Food Scraps
Corned beef and cabbage is a delicious meal many of us like to consume on St. Patrick’s Day. But, by the third day, you’ll probably start to get tired of the leftovers. Don’t just throw it away. Salvage your food scraps and compost them! Turn your trash into mulch and use it for home gardens! This also saves you money in the long run and help you avoid additional grocery expenses!
Biodegradable Dinnerware
If you’re throwing a party, avoid using plastic cups, plates, and utensils. Spend a few extra bucks on dinnerware that is biodegradable and avoid the use of plastic straws, opting for paper or metal instead!
